Position: Casual Tutor

Location: Kip McGrath Education Centres, New Zealand

About the Role

This role focuses on delivering high-quality literacy and numeracy tuition, with a strong emphasis on preparing students for the NCEA Literacy and Numeracy Co-requisite Common Assessment Activities (CAA).

You will work closely with students, particularly at the Year 9 and 10 level, to build the essential skills required to meet national standards and successfully achieve their co-requisite qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver structured, engaging lessons in literacy and/or numeracy.
• Prepare students for NCEA Literacy and Numeracy Co-requisite Common Assessment Activities (CAA).
• Apply targeted teaching strategies aligned with Year 9–10 curriculum expectations.
• Use the Kip McGrath methodology to build student confidence, independence, and engagement.
• Mark and provide clear, constructive feedback on all student work.
• Adapt teaching programmes based on reassessment data and individual learning needs.
• Build strong relationships with students and families.
• Provide timely and transparent progress updates to parents and caregivers.
• Maintain professional communication with centre managers and team members.
• Uphold high professional and child safety standards at all times.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience teaching Year 9 and/or Year 10 students, and/or demonstrated experience preparing students for NCEA Literacy and Numeracy Co-requisite Common Assessment Activities (CAA).
• Strong understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum and NCEA co-requisite standards.
• Demonstrated ability to teach literacy and/or numeracy effectively across a range of abilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
• Relevant teaching qualification.
• Ability to meet the requirements of The Children’s Act 2014.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated, organised, and able to work collaboratively.
• Availability to work after-school hours and weekends.
